Technology Integration Resources

Educators, students, caregivers, and other family members need support to access technology and, once the technology is available, how to become fluent in its use. Access to and fluency with technology varies greatly by school district, individual school, classroom, teacher, neighborhood, family, and student. These variations did not typically interfere with equitable access to teaching and learning because teachers know how to work with children in face-to-face environments with physical materials and can mitigate many of the impacts of the Technological Divide. When students were sent home and teachers were asked to maintain effective teaching and learning, schools made valiant efforts to make sure every student had access to a laptop or tablet. But providing each student with a device to use at home didn’t automatically solve the problem. This is when the gravity of the Technological Divide rapidly became apparent.
