It is more critical than ever that teacher core content knowledge is strong and that instructional approaches are grounded in excellent pedagogical approaches. The learning gaps that were present in March 2020 due to teachers having varying levels of content knowledge and pedagogical skill are magnified greatly in the current circumstances (www.nwea.org, 2020). Teachers need support in delivering essential content in mathematics and literacy to ensure students are equipped with the foundational knowledge required for academic success. Pedagogical support includes creating engaging learning environments, developing culturally responsive instruction, assessing student understanding, and providing online instruction that is student-centered and encourages students to actively explore and experience their world. In addition, families, caregivers, and students will confidently engage with and gain skills in remote and online learning, including teachnological and pedagogical aspects. Leaders within school communities who have technological and pedagogical expertise will be developed to support other community members.
